Freshman Academy
High school can look very daunting to an incoming freshman. It's much bigger and much different than middle school! The data shows that 9th grade can be a make-or-break year for students, and we want to do all we can to support them as they transition into high school. The result is the Muncie Central Freshman Academy, a "school-within-a-school" that helps ensure all Bearcats will develop the skills, relationships and experiences necessary for success during high school and beyond.
The two major components of the academy are:
- A Teaming Model - This places students within a team of four teachers in the core content areas (Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies) to foster more familiarity and deeper connections between students and teachers.
- Freshman Seminar - Required for all freshmen, this course will cover the many various skills required for a successful high school experience.
Thanks to the following partners for coming together to make the Freshman Academy possible:
- George & Frances Ball Foundation
- BlackRock Foundation
- Ball Brothers Foundation
- Muncie/Delaware County Chamber of Commerce
- The City of Muncie
- Project Leadership
