MCHS graduation ceremony moves to Fieldhouse

Muncie, Ind. – Muncie Central High School’s Class of 2021 will officially graduate inside the Muncie Fieldhouse rather than Ball State University’s Worthen Arena where the ceremony has taken place in recent years. The decision to move graduation is due to the ongoing pandemic and various restrictions regarding large gatherings.

“We want to ensure that our graduates have as traditional a ceremony as possible with family members in attendance,” Central High School Principal Chris Walker said. “The Fieldhouse allows for all COVID-19 guidelines to be followed and will be a fantastic venue for this celebration.”

Muncie Community Schools has invested more than $2 million dollars into renovating the Fieldhouse since it suffered significant storm damage in November, 2017. Some of the renovations include roof and structural repairs, new lighting, locker room improvements, restroom upgrades and a new gym floor. The arena reopened with much fanfare in December, 2019.

This will be the first graduation ceremony held in the Fieldhouse since 2015. This year’s graduation is scheduled for June 7.

Greetings,

Thank you for visiting the Muncie Central High School website and your interest in our students and staff.  Our goal at Muncie Central is to make a positive difference in the lives of each of our students.  We are able to accomplish this by setting high academic expectations; providing resources and support to our students, staff, and families; and promoting student involvement in activities both inside and outside the classroom.

Muncie Central has a very proud tradition of academic and extra-curricular success, and our students and staff are committed to carrying on this great tradition.  The Class of 2020 surpassed $6.2 million in scholarships this past spring.  Through our partnership with the University of Notre Dame and the AP-TIP IN (Advanced Placement - Teacher Investment Program of Indiana) and the Ball Brothers Foundation, students scoring a 3 or higher on an AP exam receive a $100 incentive for each exam they pass.  Since December of 2018, MCHS students have been awarded over $46,100 in AP Incentives.  MCHS is a fully endorsement Early College Program from the Center for Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL).  These accomplishments were in large part due to the efforts of our amazing teachers, staff, families, and most importantly our students.

If at any time you need to contact the school, please do so by emailing us at Central-info@muncieschools.org or calling the main office at 765-747-5260.  Thanks again for your interest in Muncie Central High School.
